State level boxing championship gets underway at Khonsa

KHONSA, Jan 30: Parliamentary secretary for DOTCL Yumsen Matey inaugurated the first ever state level boxing championship amidst a huge gathering at town club here today.
In his inaugural address Matey said that sports and games were not only helpful to keep the youth physically fit but also provide employment opportunities. He said that the chief minister Nabam Tuki was giving top priority to sports in the state. He further urged the participants to maintain true spirit of sportsmanship and asked them to take up sport seriously to bring laurel for themselves and the state as well. Later, he declared the championship open amidst cheer from the large crowd. Altogether 17 bouts were held on the first day.

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Gungku Khamir Youth Welfare Association of under Poma Panchayat in Papum Pare district has reportedly seized numerous sawing machines, tools and timbers in an eviction drive carried out at Mupu and Mekhe rivers of its jurisdiction. PPA expresses dismay over ‘negligence’ to sportspersons
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The PPA Chief Ministerial candidate Laeta Umbrey while addressing the youth cell at party office Naharlagun lambasted the ruling Govt for, what it said ‘adopting an attitude of negligence’ towards the meritorious sportspersons, particularly in the field of mountaineering, all forms of martial arts, archery, shooting, boxing, badminton, Lawn Tennis, table tennis, football, hockey and cricket. “Despite poor infrastructure and near Zero level incentives from the State Govt, the youths of the state has done wonders at international, national and regional level competitions. ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Condemning state government’s decision of replacing Jalley Sonam with Nyamar Karbak as the Chairman of Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB), The All Arunachal Pradesh Public Health Engineering & Water Supply Department Workers’ Union (AAPPHEWSDWU) has appealed the Govt to revoke its decision.
In a release, it claimed that the appointment has been made in the interest of few high profile politicians for their personal gain.

Governor, CM condemn Tarasso incident, appeal for calm
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today appealed the people of both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to stay calm and maintain peace and harmony.
The Governor advised all to remain calm and not fall prey to any provocation or rumours.
The Chief Miniser, immediately after having a telephonic talk with his Assam counterpart Tarun Gogoi on the Tarasso incident this evening, in a statement to the media, expressed his deep sense of concern over the most unfortunate incident of group clash in the forest area near Sango village under Tarasso circle of Papum Pare district yesterday which claimed 10 lives according to media reports.
Joining all in condemning the act of violence, Governor said that the untoward incident has vitiated the peaceful environment and has spread fear amongst the law abiding and innocent citizens, especially the women and children in the two neighbouring states.
While condemning the incidence in the strongest words, the CM said “law should take its own course.”
“Assam and Arunachal Pradesh have been maintaining a cordial brotherly relation from times immemorial,” the Chief Minister said. He appealed to the brothers and sisters of both the states to stay calm and maintain peace and tranquility in this hour of distress.
“It is really trying times for both the states. The pain is equal for all of us as the incidence is highly condemnable.”
The Chief Minister informed that “he had convened a high level meeting with the Chief Secretary, DGP and Home Commissioner last night and also this morning and directed to ensure every possible steps to defuse the tension prevailing in the disputed area.
Teams have been sent in the disputed area this morning to take stock of the situation. They are in constant touch with their Assam counterparts, he said.
“In the meantime I am going to plead the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to institute an independent enquiry into the incidence.
“The situation needs to be handled with utmost care by both states of Assam and Arunachal
Pradesh in order to ensure that the situation is not further deteriorated. We must
also maintain the age-
“I have also written to Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi for taking adequate steps for ensuring safety and security of people of both the sides. Peace and tranquility has to be reinstated for welfare of all,” the CM said in his statement.

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: Doimukh MLA Nabam Rebia has condemned the unfortunate incident at Tarasso area of Papum Pare district that left more than 10 people killed and many injured yesterday. Addressing mediapersons during a press conference at Arunachal Press Club here today Rebia, while expressing his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, said, “Violence is violence and it is condemnable in all sense.”
“If anyone found guilty, law should take its own course,” he said informing that the concern DC and SP have been deputed to know the ground reality of the incident.
He suggested for constitution of a neutral party to investigate into the cause of the incident.
“Neither from Arunachal government nor from Assam, a neutral party should be constituted to investigate into the incident,” he said.
Refuting the claim of some section of the media that Arunachalee people were involved in the incident, he clarified that no local people from Arunachal were involved.
“Miscreants could either be from this side or that side,” he stated.
The MLA expressed disappointment that many Assam based electronic media houses have been presenting fabricated and one sided media reports about the incident and appealed them to get authentic details before carrying any story.
He said, “Many electronic Media have been showing fabricated and one sided story of the incident which is wrong. It may infuriate the situation. Authenticity of the details should be verified before carrying the story.”
About the mention of word Dafla in a channel, he said only Nyishi people inhabit Tarasso area and there are no Daflas.
Appealing people of both the states to continue maintaining cordial relationship with each other, Rebia said there should be no confusion that may lead to misunderstanding between both the states.

ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The role of one Vivek Das believed to be CPI (ML) leader of Borgang under Sonitpur district is under scanner for boundary clash at Tarasso, which resulted in death of 10 persons. According to the report Das allegedly invited people hailing from other parts of Assam to come to Bihali, situated nearby Tarasso with promise of providing them land in return. His activity came to light for the first time in May 2013 when he led provocative bike rally inside Arunachal territory at Tarasso.
Since then supporters of Das had encroached upon Arunachal’s land and had put up camps in various area of Tarasso circle. Majority of his supporters are heavily armed with weapon. The area where clashes broke out yesterday resulting in the death of 10 persons is reportedly one of the several camps set up by armed CPI (ML) member. ITANAGAR, Jan 30: A workshop on the topic "Rural water quality and safe sanitation cum training of FTK" was conducted by the PHE & WS Division, Itanagar at Borum Community hall yesterday.

Tadar Mangku, Executive Engineer PHE & WS Division, Itanagar while highlighting the importance of sanitation in the rural area appealed the panchayat members to spread the message pertaining to the water quality, source management and preservation of catchment area by avoiding deforestation to their respective villages.

PASIGHAT, Jan 30: Devender Arya, a 2008 batch IPC officer, took the charge of East Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) today relieving Pushpendra Kumar, who has been posted to Delhi Police after completing his tenure in Arunachal Pradesh. ASSET to offer free education to a girl child
WAKRO, Jan 28: To the delight of all teachers and staff of the Apna Vidya Bhavan, Mrs Outy Takuk and Rajeev Takuk, Deputy Commissioner, Lohit handed over a cheque to Pritty Nayil, member of the Apna Vidya Bhavan (AVB) school management in presence of Dakto Riba, EAC, Wakro, B Siram, DDSE, Lohit, HODs of various Govt departments, PRI members, parents and members of community at a “Meeta Meet” function held here yesterday. The cheque of Rs Seventy three thousand five hundred was contributed by Sat Bhavana Trust (SBT), Mumbai to the Anu Shiksha Seva Trust, Wakro as assistance to meet salary expenses of the Apna Vidya Bhavan.
Attending the Meeta Meet 2014 dedicated to “Improving education in rural Arunachal”, Rajeev Takuk appreciated the generous contribution of the SBT. The DC further appreciated the Wakro educational centre saying, “beautiful school in a beautiful surrounding for creation of beautiful minds.”
Shyam Jai Singh, Trustee of SBT exhorted all in Wakro to keep up the good work. The proposal for financial assistance to the Apnes on a regular basis was recommended by His Holiness Swami Sri Sri Anubhavananda and promptly accepted by the learned trustees of the Sat Bhavana Trust, he informed. The trustee of SBT conveyed that this assistance will be continued on a regular basis and that more institutions in Sikkim and other parts of North East will be included as beneficiaries.
EAC Dakto Riba lauded SBT for the generous help to Arunachal. B Siram, DDSE Lohit also spoke on the occasion saying that the institutions in Wakro deserve appreciation and encouragement.
Reciprocating the great encouragement received from SBT, Outy Takuk, Rajeev Takuk and the district administration, ASSET announced offering free education to Khulangla Minin, girl child who lost both father ( 5 years ago) and mother who passed away last October. The Apnes and girls of KGBV presented dances, songs and skit to mark the Meeta Meet. All that is required for the proper schooling of the girl child will be done, assures an ASSET member.
Karatekas wins 20 medals in 5th South Asia Intl Karate C’ship
ITANAGAR, Jan 30: The karatekas of Nihon Shoto Kan Karate-
John Bagang won 1 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze medal each in men’s Open Kata, Kumte, Open team Kumite respectively while Bamang Yamu won one gold each in Kata and Kumite in under 16 Years Girls category respectively.
Samuel Dolo and Dongro Dodum won one gold each in medal each in Kumite under 18 years boys and above 18 years men’s category respectively. Goda Asha won one Gold and one silver medal in kata and kumite respectively in Girls under 18 years category.
Other medals winners are Nikam Sono Liyang (1 Bronze), in above 18 years men Kumite, Bangro Kamchi (1 Silver and 1 Bronze) in kata and kumite in under 14 years boys category, Sontosh Sharma (1 Bronze) in under 12 years boys Kata and Mojum Dadum (1 Bronze ) in under 14 years boys Kumite.
In Men open team Kumite, Chukhu Saha, Nikam Sono Liyang, Dongro Dodum won Gold while the trio of John Bagang, Nikam Sonoliyang and Kofa Raje won Silver.
Chukhu Saha and John Bagang are presently serving in Tax & Excise Department Govt, of Arunachal Pradesh.
John Bagang has been qualified for the upcoming European World Cup to be held at a European country.
Sensei S D Sharma and Susila Devi led the team as Coach and Team Manager, according to a release.

However giving major relief to both SSA and KGVB teacher’s state government yesterday released State matching share of Rs. 29 Cr. for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Programmes for Arunachal Pradesh. This will facilitate the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India to release the remaining share of Rs. 175 Crore meant for salary of SSA and KGBV teachers and other SSA progammes. This is welcome news and sure will bring joy among hard working teachers. The state government should find out a mechanism so that salaries paid monthly on right time.
